چکیده

In this article we analyse different types of representations of music, both from a cognitive and a computational point of view. Whereas mental representations of music are the objects of the musical mind, and are therefore by definition a subject of cognitive psychology and philosophy, it can be argued that mathematical representations of music also have some cognitive correlates enabling the understanding of non-tonal music. Amongst the many typologies of mathematical representations of music, we will analyse in detail some examples belonging to the transformational paradigm, which is a formalized subfield of computational musicology coming from the American set-theoretical tradition. Transformational music analysis also raises new questions about the cognitive and philosophical ramifications of algebraic and category-theory approaches in music theory, analysis and composition.

Representations of Music: Neural Foundations and Metaphoric Descriptions By

In Jeanne Bamberger's (1991) instructive case study on Jeff's learning, Bamberger observed and systematically ordered altering states of mental representations. In this study, Bamberger introduced and discussed a differentiated perspective on various forms of representation. In addressing the processing of music in the mind, mental representations can refer specifically to neural correlates of ...

A Universal Investigation of $n$-representations of $n$-quivers

noindent We have two goals in this paper. First, we investigate and construct cofree coalgebras over $n$-representations of quivers, limits and colimits of $n$-representations of quivers, and limits and colimits of coalgebras in the monoidal categories of $n$-representations of quivers. Second, for any given quivers $mathit{Q}_1$,$mathit{Q}_2$,..., $mathit{Q}_n$, we construct a new quiver $math...
